Best archery targets reviewed and rated

1. Rinehart RhinoBlock

Rinehart RhinoBlock Target
  • Brand New & Original! Archery Gear Ready When You Are!

The Rhinoblock is a perfect practice partner for both beginners and professional archers. This archery target is not a one-time thing block, the RhinoBlock will stay with you for years.

It’s a double foam, so shooting field tips, expandable tips, or even using one of our best broadheads on this Rhino will not cause any problems.

You would think that such a target must weight a lot, but actually, it’s light and very mobile. As you can see in the picture, you got a yellow grip you can use to drag it around with as well.

If you prefer to have a hanging target, then this yellow grip can easily be used for such purposes as well. In total, this archery target is 22 pounds, so you can safely hang it up anywhere.

This target offers several sides with different layouts making it flexible and fun.

One side has a big bullseye target with smaller targets around it and, my favorite side, the 4×4 marks. This is the side I use the most,  the most fun you can get is by shooting 6-8 arrow series on the RhinoBlock, it has so many different circles and different sizes giving you a different challenge for each shot you take.

On the back side you can practice your hunting or 3d archery skills by shooting at the outlined organs of the deer. If you are a 3D shooter or a hunter this is an excellent feature for you!

If you are looking for a new archery target you couldnt choose a more durable and versatile archery target as the RhinoBlock, check it out!

What we liked about it:

  • Very durable
  • Can be used with all types of arrows
  • Can be used for practising both hunting, 3d archery, and accuracy

2. Morrell 131 Double Duty 450 FPS Field Point Archery Bag Target

The Morrell double duty is a popular archery target and is the favorite choice of many hunters and 3d archers.

The best part about this archery target is its build. The double duty is sturdy with its well built internal structure, making it super durable, waterproof, and constructed so you can remove arrow easily.

It isn’t uncommon to sight to see someone effortlessly pulling out arrows with two fingers from this archery bag.

As you may have heard, I struggled so immensely to pull out this one arrow, and it has happened a lot of times actually with my previous target, not long after I bought this bad boy. The double duty Morell, and I must say I am super happy about it. There wasn’t any reason not to put it on the number one spot for my part.

The only drawback I don’t like about this target is the picture of the deer. I prefer a transparent background with the yellow circles. Don’t get me wrong the yellow rings circles are very easy to see and aim for, but without the deer, it would increase the visibility of the circles, making it easier to aim and see them and longer distances.

The target doesn’t just have one side with a bullseye, but it offers you several different targets that you can use to practice different skill sets and. In my option, this is the best archery target for field tips.

What we liked about it:

  • Offer a variety of shooting styles
  • Durable, waterproof and easy to remove the arrows

3. Field Logic Block Black B 20

  • Specifically designed shooting faces with the crossbow...
  • 4-sided shooting with high contrast design for GREATER...

Field logic block is a block that can easily take a beating from both short to long distances, you can try to destroy the material on the logic block with whatever you want, but I can assure you it will be a difficult task. You can easily shoot broadheads, expandable broadheads, and field tips.

It’s designed to stop the speed of a crossbow bolt. “Stop the arrow with friction not force” is their motto. This makes it possible to remove the arrow from the block very easily and this will protect the arrow from any damage.

As we know some block can harm your precious arrow, I can assure you that this is a block that would never do such a crucial thing. The reason I am so sure about this is that they use layered polyfusion, which is a charm to work with and as advertised it stops nearly anything that comes at it, yes even a 400 fps crossbow.

If you were to split your own arrows, then that would be your fault as well, since the block target offers four different sides that you can shoot on with various patterns.

As you may have seen in the picture, the block is black and white, which makes it very easy to understand the targets on long distances.

What we liked about it:

  • Easy to see the targets
  • You can shoot all types of arrows on it
  • Great stopping power and durability

This realistic deer is a perfect target for beginners to experienced archer to practice on.

The reason this is the best 3d archery target is that it’s styled after a 250 pounds deer which means it’s big, it’s actually 7 times bigger than most of its competitor’s 3d archery targets.

Because of its size, it’s more comfortable to shoot at and it gives you a reasonable estimate of what you are standing up against when you are going on a hunt when the season comes.

It’s not only big but its thick as well. It’s measured to be 36 inches in width and can easily handle an arrow or bolt going 390 fps. You would think that these 3d targets must a negative aspect compared to the bag targets, but they dont.

They can handle the same speed and impact as other bags. This deer even lets you drag out your arrows easily. As we mentioned earlier, this is an essential factor that will save both you and your archery target time and money.

The field logics 3d archery target comes with a metal pipe that you can use to attach the deer to the ground, so it stays steadily while you shoot.

If you are looking for a 3d archery target, then you shouldn’t look any further because this is a perfect candidate for most archers to prepare for the next hunting season.

Turkey 3d archery target: if you are hunting for turkeys, then I would recommend you to look into the Rinehart tom turkey target as you know I am a big fan of Rinehart, and Rinehart is the manufacturer that made the tom turkey target. I yet haven’t found a turkey target made of better quality or that looks more realistic to this one.

Rinehart doesn’t only make turkey 3d targets, but a whole range of different types and animals, they know their stuff.

The only set back on the tom turkey is that the vitals are not outlined, but they aren’t on a real turkey either, so take your time to look for the right spots to shoot at and try to hit them as good as you can.

What we liked about this archery target:

  • Easy to remove the arrows
  • Great size for a realistic hunting fealing
  • Durable and stable

5. Field Logic Hurricane Archery Bag Target H25

  • HIGH VISIBILITY AIMING POINTS - Graphics against the...
  • LONG TARGET LIFE - Deer vitals on the back side are off...

The hurricane is perfect for any archer out there, giving you two versatile sides you can work with. One for standard target shooting where you can easily shoot a couple of arrows without having the issue of splitting.

As you can see on the picture the other side is a picture of the inner organs of a deer, so if you want to practice your significantbig game accuracy skills then you have the option to do that as well, but if you look closely you can see the organs are upside down, which is a bummer.

You can turn the target upside down on a stand, but if you prefer to hang it in a line, then it will be a problem since there is only one metal ring that is placed on the top of the target.

what we liked about the target:

  • Durable
  • Designed for hunters, 3d archery, and target shooters
  • Easy to see at long distances

6. Morrell YJ-350 Broadhead Target

Morrell 204 Yellow Jacket Crossbow Broadhead Target
  • Broadhead block archery target
  • 100% Weatherproof
  • Designed to stop speeds of 350 FPS

Morrell is famous for its great archery targets, and this is no exception. This bag is purely designed for broadheads.

This archery bag target is made of several high quality, making it easier to remove the arrows and of course, prevent the bolts from penetrating through the target itself.

This bag will have no problem stopping 1000s of your arrows. By the time you have destroyed this bag, you will be a considerably better archer, and the investment of a Rhino bag will probably be your next step after this one.

The yj-350 archery bag comes at a very affordable price tag as well. I would say its one of the best archery bags on a budget.

Since it can handle a lot of beating, it’s easy to see and is a great starting point for most archers. If you are planning to use broadheads, then there is no reason not to buy this archery target as an advanced archer as well.

Summary of the Morrell archery target:

  • Designed for broadheads and expandable arrows
  • Great durability
  • Easy to remove the arrows

7. Rinehart 18-1 Target

Rinehart 18-1 Broadhead Target
  • Eighteen sides, making 18 targets in one
  • Legendary self healing foam
  • Perfect for practicing anywhere

Here is one of my favorite archery targets of all time and the favorite of many close friends of mine as well. This is an archery target that lets you shoot from any angle possible with a variety of circles to aim for.

The circles are colored with bright green color, and the background is all black making it easy to see where to shoot at long distances. The target itself is a bit smaller than the other targets on this list (15x15x15 inches).

The material used is the “self healable” material (Great!), which I will go more in-depth about later on in the article, but, every time you shoot and drag the arrow out, the material will shrink together and cover up the hole you just made. This is a fantastic feature that drastically helps with the lifetime of an archery target.

Since the material will shrink on the impact, the arrows will be a bit harder to remove, but you are still able to use expandable and broadhead arrows without any issue.

If you are a hunter or a target shooter that wants the option to shoot at different angles or have an excellent target that will last you for a LONG time, then this is the best archery target for you.

What I like about this target:

  • Has multiple sides
  • Self healable
  • Durable and easy to see

8. Morrell Yellow Jacket Stinger Field

This is another target that made for fieldtips only, but it still can stop arrows up to 350 fps. Which means it can handle most recurve bows and compound bows.

This target gives you to sides to shoot on, and as you can see in the picture, there are five red circles with a good clearing between them, which you can choose to shoot on.

The bag itself consists of quite hard materials that prevent you from tearing apart the cover when you rip out the arrow, but it is still soft enough for saving your arrows from being broken.

I am not sure, but I think that the reason you cannot use broadheads and expandable broadheads on the yellow jacket is precisely because of this, the hard and durable material.

If you are an indoor archer that mainly shoot field tips, then this is the one for you, as you can see there are two metal rings which you can use to attach the bag to the roof to hold it up — no need to spend a ton of money on a stand when you have such an option.

There won’t an issue moving this archery bag around either since its total weight is about 30 pounds. Its a bit heavier than a few on this lift, but still not substantial enough for you to not be able to lift it comfortably.

what I like about the Morrell yellow jacket archery target:

  • Super durable with hard materials
  • Easy to hang up

9. Yellow Jacket Supreme

If you want a bag that can last you for years, then HELLO. This is the one! The yellow jacket is designed for durability. It has been tested with 1000s of compound shots, and I must say it holds up nicely from what I have seen, a friend of mine owned this exact bag, and I remember it lasted for a long time!

Same as the last Morrell target, this one is very mobile as well and can be used both indoor and outdoor. It is equipped with two metal rings on the top, which makes it easy for you to hang it up where ever you want.

As long as there are arrows you shoot at it, you can be sure that this bag will hold up! Just check it out on amazon and see all the people who agree, at this moment it has over 400 reviews raving about it. This is the best archery target for those who are looking for an archery target that will last for a long time, and that doesn’t cost that much.

What I liked about the Yellow jacket supreme archery target:

  • Durable
  • Easy to see
  • Easy to hang up

10. Best traditional bow target

Bear Archery Foam Target, 36-Inch
  • Constructed with 100% self-healing foam
  • Targets are resistant to wear and impervious to insects
  • Waterproof and UV resistant

Back to the basics, let’s finish off this lift with a classic traditional bullseye target, shall we? These targets are perfect for parks, archery ranges and for those who want to get into competitive archery.

They can fall over if you are shooting with higher poundage compound bows or crossbows, but if you are shooting with a recurve or traditional bow you should be more than fine. If you have an archery class then this is the best archery target for the job, they are to easy to hit and is perfect to have outside.

This (bear archery foam target) is waterproof and made of self-healable materials (which is nice), but it is quite heavy compared to the other targets on this list.

If you were to buy this traditional archery target and wanted to move it inside after your practice or move it around, I would recommend you to buy a tripod-style stand since these will make it a lot easier for you to move it around.

No, you dont get a target with the stand, it can look like it by just looking at the picture on amazon, but they usually dont, if it does it will be stated in the description.

What I like about the traditional target:

  • Old school
  • Best archery target type for people at archery camps or want to get into competitive archery
  • Big and easy to shoot at for beginners

We have now covered several different types of archery targets as you can see there are different styles of archery targets for different situations and archery styles, some are durable, some are lightweight and some are simply made just to look real and give the realistic feeling of hunting.

What archery target you need depends totally on your style of archery and your requirements, if you are not sure which one to choose yet then feel free to read further because here are a few checkpoints you can go through in order to find the best archery target for your needs.

Different Types of Archery Targets

Picture of the different types of archery targets.

First thing you want to know and decide is the difference between the archery targets and which one you should choose for your specific situation. If you read this guide you will confidently know which target you need!

Traditional Bulls-Eye Style Targets

These are the most traditional targets out there which you have seen dozens of times. The usual bull-eye style targets are the round targets that are colored traditionally- White, black, blue, red and yellow. They are known to be large archery targets as well, which is great for some archers.

I actually like the design of these targets and I get an old school vibe when I start shooting at a wooden bulls-eye target. They don’t offer the same mobility and durability as the other types of targets I will mention in this article, but they can be fun and work wonders if you are in need of a target.

3D Targets

The 3D targets is a fun one, these are targets that look like animals, for example, a deer. This target is designed for 3d archers or hunters mainly, but if you really want to its always possible get one for target shooting as well, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Bags

This is a very common bag type if you have practiced with a compound bow before you have probably shot on such a target. The bag targets are awesome for beginners because they got a very large surface making them easier to hit.

The circles are a bit smaller than a traditional target which can be a downside if you are struggling to hit the bullseye, but in my option have a bigger target is more valuable.

Because of the smaller circles, it can be harder to use the bag targets for longer distances as well. But if you have good sight and accuracy then I suppose there won’t be an issue, but its something to keep in mind before you buy your first archery target.

Another great benefit it offers is mobility, you can easily bring it along with you in the car, store them in the garage and take them outside in the yard when you feel like it, if its legal in your area of course.

Besides the smaller circles this is a GREAT target type that has been used for decades in the archery community, they are very durable , they can easily take a couple of hundreds of shots without any harm and I mentioned earlier they are actually mobile which I really like because I don’t like to have my archery equipment laying around in my garden.

Oh, and most of these bag targets are waterproof as well, so if you are not like me and want them to stay in your backyard for weeks on end then that won’t is an issue.

Cubes

The cube targets can be easily recognized with their cube-shaped form. Some cube targets have several sides as well as the famous Rihno target, the advantage of multiple sides is that you can shoot at the target for different angles and heights. If you are a hunter then really should consider buying a cube target.

Most cube targets are made of foam, so they are on the light which makes them very mobile and easy to carry around. The downside of this is that they can change shape after a while, if you continue to shoot on one side of the target then the target will probably be pushed back a few inches after a while, but this is not a big deal tho,

If you have a thick cube then you have to remember that broadheads or bows with high draw weight can easily get stuck in the foam. This can be annoying and in some cases decrease the lifetime of the target. So make sure to think through your choice of draw weight and arrows when you shoot on a foam target.

Criteria to check to find the best archery target

Picure of a 3d archery target in the woods with 4 arrow shot through it.

Now lets look into a few of the things you should check before you to decide to buy a archery target.

Self-healing material

The first checkpoint I like to look after targets that heal their themselves. Yes, they can heal themselves.

As we know our recurve and compound bows are weapons that I supposed to do damage and that’s exactly what they do to our dear targets as well. It’s surprising that the archery targets even last for a week having in mind how many arrows we shoot at it.

A reason for their durability is connected with their ability to self heal. The targets that can self-heal is targets made of materials such as foam, rubber, or rubber foam (best foam for archery targets). These are materials that collapse together. For example, if you shoot an arrow into a foam target and pull the arrow out, you will see the foam shrinking together, making it look like you never even shot at it.

This way you can shoot at it for days without beeing a big black hole there at the end of the week. Most targets mentioned on this list is made of such materials because the manufacturers that know their craft knows that this is an important factor that should be taken care of.

They wont selfheal for ever tho, if you shoot on the same spot over and over again the target will stop healnig it self.

Durability and thickness

the thicker, the better! If you are going to spend money on a target you want it to last for a while, so you should aim to get a target that has several layers, is thick and made of quality materials.

Shooting isn’t the only thing that can hurt your target, but if you leave your target outside in the rain, it can damage the longevity of your target as well.

Arrow retrieval

As i mentioned earlier foam targets, but other archery targets as well can make your arrows get stuck. This is something you want to avoid at all cost really because when they do get stuck it is a pain to get out and it will damage your target.

The process of removing an arrow can be very time consuming as well, I have been in the situation where I had to spend half of my practice on pulling out this broadhead from a nasty foam target.

Size

you should adjust the size to your archery skills and accuracy, if you know you have trouble shooting accurately on big targets then you know should buy an even bigger target. Which target size you need is something you have to figure out for yourself, but you know if you need a big one or not.

The kind of target you need is different dependant on what bow you shoot as well if you are shooting with a traditional bow you are not going to shoot as accurate as a #80 compound bow.

Groomets

If you are planning to hang your target from a snore then you need to make sure that the bag is equipped with grommets, most bags have this, but you need to double check before you make the purchase, still if you are not planning to hang it because there will probably a day where you want to be able to do so.

Arrow compatible

There are bags out there made of materials that hurt your arrow and trust me that is no fun to see your costly arrows go to waste because you bought a bad archery target.

If the materials aren’t the problem then the next way to damage your arrows is by doing it yourself and that isn’t something you want to do either. With that, I mean when you hit your own arrows, this can happen if you buy an archery target with only one big bullseye target to shoot on, this forces you to group your arrows and can result in splitting or destroying your arrows.

I recommend you to buy an archery target that has several small bullseye targets, this way you can shoot on different ones instead of grouping all your arrows on one target.

Mobility

And lastly mobility, I have been into this criteria a few times already, but it is a box you want to check off before you decide to purchase the target because what if?

What if you want to bring it to the archery range, a friend or just move it on the other side of the house. I have moved my own archery targets several times and I am super happy I got the rhino cube which is easy to move around and is light.

I hope these checkpoints and guide have helped you to find the best archery target for your needs, it’s not an easy task. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Some tips for you

if you are shooting and not getting the result you wish for then there are a few purchases that can help you out. My favorite two accessories for my recurve bow is my arrow rest and bow release. They are the two things that have attributed a lot to my success.
